I’m a first time mom and my baby is 5 days old. For the first three days, I breastfed him, but I had planned on eventually pumping and bottle feeding. Anyway, he was acting like he wasn’t getting enough milk, and was staying hungry, so I went ahead and started giving him a bottle of formula to supplement until my body produced more milk (I didn’t have my pump with me, so I decided to give my nipples a break). The next day, or yesterday, I woke up with plans to breastfeed but my breasts were so full that my nipples are flat and he won’t latch on. I tried the breast pump (first years breast flow) and after 15 minutes of pumping, I had maybe a tablespoon of milk between both breasts and my nipples still wouldn’t stick out enough for him to latch. I have the same problem today. I really want to him to have breast milk, rather I have to pump or breastfeed, but I’m so frustrated and I HURT! I’ve tried pumping, I’ve tried messaging my breasts with a hot wash cloth… nothing. They’ll leak milk occasionally, so I know I’ve got milk in there. I don’t want to give up, but I don’t know what to do. Can anyone help? Have any of you went through this? What did you do?
